Mama By The Bay is a safe place for all parents who yearn for a community.  After the birth of my first son Max, I realized that no one ever tells the truth about mothering.  The searing, heartbreaking, uplifting, doubt-inducing, anxiety-provoking, elated happy dance of truth.

So Mama By The Bay was born.   I’m Kim Simon, the “Mama”.  I live on the very edge of the Left Coast, in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.   I’ve been parenting in public since 2009, and my essays have been featured on The Huffington Post, BlogHer and Mamalode.  My syndicated writing includes themes of motherhood, as well as social issues such as domestic violence, feminism and women’s rights, internet safety , school violence and how the media interacts with children who have experienced trauma.   As a freelance writer, I am also available to work with you on specialized writing projects that fit your company’s needs.

And if you’re a mama, listen up….

We laugh here.  Bring your funny.  We cry here.  Bring your shoulder to lean on.  We hope, and we dream, and we curse, and we tell the truth.  Welcome to our little sunny spot by the bay.  I make a mean push-button coffee, so pull up a chair and kick off your shoes!

If you’re not familiar with us yet, go ahead….open up our medicine cabinet and my nightstand drawer.  Let me get that for you…we’re not shy.

Why does Max have a “special belly”?

Does it ever “get better”?

Are you lying to me?

I’m still nursing my toddler.  I’m still bottle-feeding my toddler.  Does that make me weird?

It hurts my feelings when other moms make me feel like I’m a big fat failure.  Should I just suck it up?

Is it all about kids and poopy diapers around here?  Do you ever have any grown-up conversation?  Ohhhh, I see.

Still, you seem like a pretty perfect mother sometimes.  Tell me something to make me hate you just a little.
