Breastfeeding

I am a breastfeeding mom.  My journey to nursing Ben has been one of the most rewarding, heart-breaking, soul-searching, stunningly beautiful, challenging, eye-opening, uplifting experiences of my life.   Nursing him is a privilege.  I know this, because I believe that all moms deserve support, regardless of how they feed their babies.  My first son Max was fed with formula.  Ben is breastfed.  They both have been fed with tremendous love.

I promise that when I share the overwhelming joy that breastfeeding brings me, I will also tell you the truth about how I arrived here (2 1/2 years of breastfeeding, and counting!).

When I was pregnant with Ben, I desperately hoped for A Second Chance at Breastfeeding.

I was blessed to have some amazing women who taught me how to breastfeed.  I highly recommend working with a birth and postpartum doula, and meeting with a lactation consultant in the first days and weeks that you are home with your baby.  Breastfeeding is a learning process, and you deserve to have a community of wise women around you to support and guide you.  If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, the doulas at Stork & Sprout are the reason why I survived my first few  months postpartum.

I believe that we have the right to feed our babies wherever and whenever we choose.  I nurse in public.  I plan on breastfeeding Ben for as long as he wants to.  Breastfeeding is the right choice for us.  I support however you choose to feed your baby, and trust that you are doing it with love.  I hope that we can learn from each other, lift each other up, and create the kind of community that other moms can fall back on when they are struggling.

Feed with love…..
